Update on Tammy Hildebrand

I have good news, my friends! Very good news. As you know, my good friend, Tammy Hildebrand, and her family have been suffering for a very long time. You can read about it here.

Tammy and her family recently tried a new treatment. After just a few days, there was considerable improvement. Now, after three weeks, they are all doing so much better. I copied this photo of Tammy from her Facebook page because I don’t think she will mind. :-) Tammy says that she feels absolutely terrific! She and her family finally have their lives back. I am so very happy to hear this news.

New Design: Toddler Hooded Jacket

The Toddler Hooded Jacket, made in Simply Soft Heather, has been posted to the Caron Yarns website here.

The hood is designed a bit differently than my other hooded childrens clothing. I designed it to have more height so that it’s more drapey around the head and shoulders. This is probably the reason the front of the jacket has risen at the hem. The weight of the hood, while on the hanger, is pulling the hem up.

The photo from the website is all I have. Someone asked for a photo showing the hood, but I was unable to get photos prior to shipping this one.

New Design: Lovely Lush Shawl

The Lovely Lush Shawl is currently published in the July 2010 issue of Creative Knitting Magazine.

This was my first time doing cabling. And, the rumors are true! Knitted cables are really easy to do. But, they are certainly time-consuming.

This was also my first time using Cascade Cash Vero DK. It’s absolutely extraordinary. And lots and lots of pretty colors! I loved working with it and used the remainder for the videos I did a few months’ back at my YouTube channel.

Crochet Along: Tunisian Sampler Afghan

If anyone is interested in participating in a crochet-along for the above project, please post a note below. The crochet-along began May 1, but there is still room for more. And, even if you don’t want to start the project right away, it’s still good to have notes handy about the project.

If you do not have the pattern leaflet, it is available for PDF download at Annie’s Attic here.

Hope to see you there!

May 2010 Online Class: Tunisian Short Rows

Class Schedule for Kim Guzman

May 2010 Online Classes

Learn to do Tunisian Short Rows. Registration is now open. Class begins May 21, 2010. Class Fee: $10. Self-striping yarn and Tunisian crochet join together for the perfect combination of color and texture in this Tunisian Short Row Scarf. I have designed this scarf to avoid the annoying curl so often associated with Tunisian crochet. It’s perfectly adaptable to any yarn. And, students are encouraged to try out the technique with a solid yarn of their choice in the class when learning. It’s not necessary to use self-striping yarn in the learning process. Once the technique is learned, you’ll have the pattern to begin working on this beautiful scarf in the yarn of your choice.

New Design: Kalari Baby Jacket

I have a new knit design available on the Naturally Caron website. I was asked to do a baby kimono in Naturally Caron Spa yarn, a lovely DK weight yarn. I was asked to do some embroidery. And, to be honest, I have not done much embroidery. And, it’s been almost 40 years since I tried my hand at it on a pillow case. Of course, being me, I pretty much invented this embroidery stitch (at least, I couldn’t find it anywhere at all in order to help out the poor tech editor). She did a lovely diagram of it. :-)

You can get the pattern for the Kalari Baby Jacket here.

New Design: Chain-Sleeve Tank

The Chain-Sleeve Tank has been made available in the Web Bonuses of the July 2010 issue of Crochet! magazine. This design is in the “Fashion Your Way” section and is the Trendy version. The Purple Passion Pullover is in the hard copy (and digital copy) issue. (I’ll post a better photo of it once I have my copy.)

This design is made in yarns from Berroco: Seduce (R) and Lumina. Two years’ ago, it won an honorable mention in the CGOA Design Contest.

Here is a photo of Brianna in the prototype. I actually did several prototypes off this design, trying to get it just so. It’s surprising easy to stitch, using single crochet around the sides and back. The center portion is done in slip stitch crochet. The center gradually decreases to give a figure flattering hour glass look, almost like a corset. The stitch pattern used for the back and sides is super stretchy. Surprisingly, in order to get the look I wanted, I had to stitch it with a negative ease of five inches. For example, the size large is intended to fit a 40″ chest, but the actual garment will measure 35″. All the better for you! The less stitches, the quicker the project! :-)

The design is written for sizes extra small, small, medium and large, according to Yarn Standards sizing.
